My Story
Welcome to Mrs. Bartel Tutors English! I am an experienced high school English teacher dedicated to helping students enhance their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. In June of 2026 I retired from classroom teaching and will now focus on tutoring students online, focusing on those who may not have access to the necessary guidance. My mission is to empower students to think independently and express their thoughts clearly. With a passion for teaching, I provide personalized support to meet each learner's unique needs.
*I have a degree in German Literature from the University Wisconsin–Madison and teaching credentials in German, English, and Adaptive Education from Silver Lake College.
*Experienced in Curriculum Design - aligning state standards to learning outcomes for student growth.
*Nine years of success teaching AP Literature and Composition. Strong writing instruction.
*Three years served as a College Board exam essay grader for AP Literature in Salt Lake City, Utah
*Past five years have had an exemplary passing rate for students taking the AP Literature exam, three years 100% passing.
Over the past twenty years students have left my classes with the required skills to succeed in their post–high school education or the workforce.

Our Services
01.ACT English Test Preparation
Test taking strategies, reading comprehension work, and writing techniques. Knowledge of the test structure and question types. Prepare for the exam with targeted strategies to reach your goals.
02.AP English Literature and Composition Preparation
Build close reading skills, writing practice, and overall test taking strategies to demonstrate the required rigorous skill level. Consistently high student achievement. Following are the passing rates for the past five years: *2022: 12 students 100% passing rate *2023: 6 students 100% passing rate *2024: 22 students 100% passing rate *2025: 14 students 92.9% passing rate *2026: 20 students 85% passing rate, 6 students earned a 5, and 4 students earned a 4. Students earn college credits.
03.Middle & High School Academic Support
Build strong reading comprehension, analytical thinking, and writing skills across all levels. This option for academic support can be for home school student support or students in a school setting who seek more personalized reinforcement to reach your academic goals. * Homeschool English Instruction - Personalized guidance in reading, writing, and critical thinking for homeschool students. 04.AP Literature Teacher Mentoring
Trained teacher mentor with proven success in guiding and collaborating with teachers to help them refine their curriculum and classroom strategies. Mentor AP Literature teachers to elevate classroom instruction and improve student outcomes.
05.Learning Pod
The learning pod service is designed for a minimum of four students in a group of people all working on the same skill. Students could get four to six people together to sign up for a learning pod to cover ACT preparation strategies, for example. Each participant must sign up for the time slot and cover the $50 fee.

Tue/Thu | 9:00 – 11:30 & 1:00 – 6:00

Tuition Rates: Payment required when scheduling service
Single Session: $60 per hour
5-Session Bundle: $250 for five one hour sessions
Teacher Mentorship: $75 per hour

Policy Note: A $30 fee applies to missed sessions or no-shows without 24 hours’ notice.
Students are expected to be focused during the tutoring sessions and not engage in distractions.
